Leg 4 (28.3 km / 17.6 miles)
Leg 4 begins with an exhilarating, long, fast and potentially dangerous downhill to the bridge and turnoff to Million Dollar Falls at the bottom of the hill, on the right side of the road. (Use Caution!)
Riders then begin the thigh and lung burning, relentless 7 km (4.3 mile) climb towards Checkpoint 4. Here the ride begins steeply at the bridge and provides some relief along the way with shallower grades at times.
There are great views of the Tatshenshini River on the right, if your eyes aren’t too glazed over with the effort.
Riders then drop down to the Blanchard River and pass into the wider plains of the plateau which contain a few steep sections. Nature then turns up the gravity as the leg ends on a steep uphill guaranteed to turn what’s left of your legs into Jell-O.
Leg 4 riders on 2, 4, and 8-person teams enter Checkpoint 4 to dip their timing sticks. There is usually ample parking at this checkpoint but it is often windy and cool/cold.
